Mechanical actuators based on silicon MEMS have mechanical and electrical characteristics that are very well suited for autofocus in miniature camera modules. Electrostatic comb drives move the lens faster, with more precision, and with significantly less power consumption than the voice coil motor technology used in traditional autofocus camera modules.
The MEMS autofocus actuator is just one of the advanced features of the mems|cam module. Additional benefits are provided by novel optical designs, industry-leading embedded image processing algorithms, and advanced packaging technology. Thin lens designs and flip chip packaging enable ultra-low z-height of 5.1 mm for an 8MP 1/3.2″ module.
